Sublimated Full-Colour Towels

Screen printing puts ink on the surface in a limited number of colours. Sublimation puts dye into the fibre, at any number of colours, right to the edge of the towel — which is the only way to do a photograph, a gradient or a full-bleed pattern.

It requires a polyester microfibre base rather than cotton. That is a genuine trade: microfibre is lighter, dries faster and prints beautifully, but it does not have the weight and hand of a cotton towel, and some fans notice.

Where sublimation wins outright is a design with no clean colour separation — a photo of a player, a sunset-to-dark fade behind a crest, a repeating pattern that runs off every edge. None of those are screen-printable at sensible cost.
